Officers were called to the 0-100 block of Albemarle Street just after 6 p.m. by a ShotSpotter alert, Springfield police said.
When they arrived, they found a man bleeding from a bullet wound. He was rushed to Baystate Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries, police said.
Authorities did not release the victim's name.
